Toilets are sealed to the floor flange with a wax ring but the height of the flange and the tightness of the flange bolts.
Toilet flange not level with floor.
Hammer a shim gently between the floor and the toilet base to bring a low side up.
This can be a very serious issue since it can cause some sewer gases to leak around the bathroom.
I m using the oately xl ring.
The reason being is because the toilet recesses into the flange when.
The problem is when the ring is placed on the toilet it only extends 1 4 beyond the base of the toilet.
If your flange sits even or below the floor then it s wrong.
Place the carpenters level across the toilet bowl side to side and note where the bubble level is.
This is the same distance between the floor and flange so it will never seal properly.
When you install your toilet flange it should be installed on top of the finished floor and it should also be installed perfectly level.
It will just touch at best.
Take for instance tiling a new bathroom floor that ended up raising floor height way above the toilet flange.
It has to sit evenly on top of the finished floor.
You also want to make sure the toilet sits level and does not rock on the floor as this can compromise the seal.

When you are replacing a toilet or resetting an existing toilet after a repair there are a few key things to check to ensure a good seal and prevent leaks.
