Nov 14 2012 1 hi.
Tiling a bowed wall.
Also if you re tiling a ceiling in the shower x77 is a fantastic option.
Before you start remember that using the correct trowel and mortar is critical to a successful tile project.
I explain why this method works soooo easy.
Check the wall first to see if it is straight.
Slide a 4 foot straightedge or level.
Your answer is that you would deal with bowed walls by using thinset on your tiles.
Here is an easy way to set your 1st row and the rest going up your wall then lastly the first row is set.

Learn how to prep a shower wall for tile.
If you mix x77 per the directions use the correct trowel size back butter your tiles and use directional troweling your tiles won t slide down the wall.
I cannot tell you the last time i tiled a perfectly flat shower and unless you are using mosaics or really small tiles you will have to vary your thinset application to fix any issues.
Choose a small tile 4 inches square or less.
Do this prior to any tiling job.
At 1 or 6 a bow like that would make a dish for water in a shower floor.
Nobody wants a tile to fall of the ceiling and hurt someone or crack a shower pan tile.
For wet areas such as shower walls you must take certain precautions.
You would simply use more thinset on the parts that are in more and less on the bowed areas.
If this is the option for you make sure you use a thick set tile adhesive that can survive being built upon.
As for the tile layout i think 1 3 off set is the most your currently aloud to spec on the larger format tile.
Floor or wall indoors or out tile type and size all are a factor.
Find the right trowel and mortar here.
These bowed tiles are a big problem with shower floors that have less than 2 grade built into them.
By back buttering the tile and adding adhesive to the surface to pack out the base and raise the tile to the level of the one next to it just always ensure you have a spirit level and good eye.
The smaller the tile the less it will show on a bowed wall.
